The Cist figures
The ideas developed from the Cist burial figures. The folded and preserved
skeletons that were once people like you and I.
The exploration of the figure and the tearing apart, is for me, an expression
of our humanity.
We are physical beings, tied to the earth, but also tied to all of humanity,
past and present, by our minds.
Arms length
Moving up to the present, this figure forms part of a developing group of
pieces continuing to explore the figure.
The physical body and the soaring mind.
Blu man
I like this snapshot of the upraised hands. This piece was from an earlier
mould. The figure was soaring, but it was linked to the ground.
Work in progress
My three-dimensional pieces are experiments in fused glass and clay.
I create casts of figures, using paper clay, then reshape, cutting and tearing them. The figures are about 30cm tall.
Currently I am working with different coloured Terra Sigilata finishes for the figures.
Some of the figures sit in a background of broken and fired glass. I am also experimenting with placing and stitching them into fabric backgrounds.
'Arms length', is on glass with oil paints. This will be developed using colour that can be fired into the glass.
The pieces are generally made for wall mounting and have no frame.
